Immerse Yourself in Color: A Mid Century Modern Hill Country Home Tour

Colorful dining room with patterned chairs, a mid century modern chandelier, and bold pink monkey wallpaper, wall art, showcasing mid-century modern influences in a Texas Hill Country home.

Welcome to Musée Monet, a vibrant display of unique style, health consciousness, and energy efficiency in the Texas Hill Country. This residence, boasting Energy Star and EPA Indoor airPLUS certifications, achieves an impressive HERS rating of 16, translating to $4,000 of annual savings on energy bills for the homeowners. Designed by Rachel Farrington and Danze and Davis Architects, this Hill Country custom home perfectly encapsulates luxury and sustainability.

Our clients, a vibrant couple passionate about unique design, envisioned a home that reflected their individual tastes and maximized the benefits of energy-efficient building practices. The wife, with her background in interior design, brought a thoughtful collection of antique pieces into the home and the finishing touches that all tell a story. While the husband’s love for bold colors influenced many of the vibrant selections.

The property’s unique topography played a crucial role in the design, with the home backing up to a steep cliffside that offers breathtaking views. The long driveway, tucked among mature native trees, leads to a home perfectly integrated into the landscape. Integrating the home to the land was meticulously performed via site planning to preserve mature trees, maintain the natural beauty of the land, and position the home for optimal solar shading and to capture breezes from the prevailing wind direction.

The exterior of the single-story home features a harmonious blend of stucco finished in Sherwin Williams Green Onyx, creamy Austin limestone, and a dark-standing seam metal roof for easy integration of the solar photovoltaic system placed out of sight on the rear roof. The orientation of the home ensures that it feels like an isolated sanctuary, perfectly carved into the landscape. While exterior fixtures and finishes allow homeowners to reap the incredible benefits of sustainable features such as solar panels, rainwater harvesting, solar shading, and more.

A striking custom iron and glass door, by our partners at Texas Doors and Windows, opens to Wood Luxe walls that provide homeowners privacy before pouring into an open floor plan. Pink Kariokas Monkey wallpaper highlights the dining space with a unique chandelier and brass wall sconces. A fireplace framed in colorful mosaic tile reaches for the ceiling with vertical wood slats. While a nearly monochromatic green kitchen draws you in.

The kitchen is a highlight of maximalism, featuring Benjamin Moore Lafayette Green perimeter cabinetry and emerald green quartzite countertops that extend into a dramatic 34-inch backsplash. Natural light floods the space through nearly 28 feet of perimeter windows, highlighting the champagne gold hardware and a bold magenta Fischer and Paykle range. The custom cabinet panel-ready fridge and freezer help disguise appliances at counter depth to maintain the sleek aesthetic. A unique nod to our typical sliding glass doors, three french doors lead to outdoor entertainment.

The primary bedroom is positioned to maximize views and features floor-to-ceiling black and white abstract wallpaper, a vast 17.5-foot window, and design elements that exude luxury and tranquility. The primary bathroom continues this theme, with details that emphasize both comfort and elegance.

The primary bedroom provides a tranquil retreat, while the secondary bedrooms offer ample space for their daughters to visit for years to come. A creatively stimulating green office and uniquely designed bathrooms in each room ensure every corner of the home is both functional and personal.
